St Ninian
Ninian is listed among the saints of the diocese and the church at Wooler is dedicated to him.
He spent much time in Rome where he became a Christian, devoting his life to the service of the Church. In Rome he was consecrated a bishop and came first to Britain (where precisely is not known) and then to Scotland where he preached the Gospel in Dumfrieshire, making Whithorn his episcopal church. .He died in 512. His feast day is 16th September.
