Roman Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle

Bishop Kevin Dunn - Tributes1

During the first couple of hours of an on-line Book of Condolences tributes to the life and work of Bishop Kevin Dunn have poured in.

Here is a selection of those received from people in the Diocese and beyond.

Hexham and Newcastle, and indeed the wider world of Christendom and all religions, have lost a faithful shepherd and leader. He was a man who was able to transcend religious boundaries and see the human being behind the mask. As a religious man I appreciated his thoughtfulness, but as a fellow citizen of this world I enjoyed his humour and smile.
(Rabbi Dovid Lewis, Newcastle upon Tyne)

Bishop Kevin was an amazing Bishop, full of life and confidence! He was great with the youth and will be greatly missed at events such as the summer festival :(
( Miriam Lydon, Newcastle)

A non-Catholic, I only heard Bishop Kevin preach twice and spoke to him myself only once, but was able to recognise a quiet and simple love in this most compassionate of pastors. He will be sorely missed.
J. Ritzema (Benton)

He welcomed the Canon Law Society of Great Britain and Ireland to Gateshead in May 2007 and I was impressed by his affable and holy character. He was a canonist who brought to his ministry the desire to have law assist our salvation. May he rest in peace
(Fr Dominic Golding, Portsmouth Diocesan Tribunal)

He was a truly gentle, down to earth person with a great sense of humour - a truly 'People's Bishop'. Always had a smile on his face
(Angela, Tyne and Wear)
