Joe’s Place

Joe’s Place, has provided a warm welcome and hot, freshly cooked food to all who need it, every Wednesday since May 2014.

It is a PACE (Parish and Community Enablement) project, based in St. Joseph’s Parish Centre in Gateshead. Parishioners throughout Gateshead support this project by donating canned and dried food for the store cupboard and help to fund the purchase of fresh food items like milk, bread, salad and fruit. We have also been financially supported by charitable donations from local businesses, schools, parishes and individuals.

Many volunteers have been working on the project since it began, and some of our visitors have now become regular helpers. The volunteers, and all who support this project, have enabled Joe’s Place to reach out to help some of the many vulnerable, lonely and needy people in our area.

In March 2020, like many other projects we were sadly compelled to close due to COVID restrictions. We ensured that all our stocks of food supplies, toiletries, and items like sleeping bags were taken to be used by projects such as Vinnies or the Bensham Food Co–Op.

Plans are being made to refurbish the kitchen area while we remain closed and funds have been raised by supporters to help us to restock our shelves. We know that this project will be needed more than ever as the area begins to recover from the effects of the Pandemic. We look forward to being able to reopen when it is safe to do so.
