Situated about one mile from the Bishop of Durham's residential Palace, St Mary's Parish is a caring, welcoming community who worship together, work together and play together. We value our past history but are forward looking.

There is a variety of groups in the Parish - approximately twenty - all of which would welcome new members and would put their skills and gifts to good use. An active fellowship of Christian Churches exists in the town and St Mary's Parishioners have always been involved in this, for example we took part in a survey of the town to discover the needs which people felt were not being met; as a result of which several groups were set up and manned by inter-church volunteers.

Our mission is to spread the Good News of the Gospel; to nurture those who receive it and to take it to heart while continuing to hold out the hand of friendship to those who do not.
