Ecumenical Pilgrimage marking the 900th Anniversary of St. Godric at Finchale Priory

North East Churches Acting Together Ecumenical Pilgrimage – Saturday 23 May 2015

This year marks the 900th anniversary of St. Godric going to Finchale Priory in Durham.

St. Godric follows in the tradition of the great Northern Saints in his zeal for the Gospel and his love of our region. He lived as a hermit at Finchale dedicating his life to prayer.

To give thanks for the life of Godric, North East Churches Together held a pilgrimage and service at the beautiful setting of Finchale priory on the banks of the Wear.

The service was led by the Rt. Revd. Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham, Fr. Martin Stempczyk of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and other church leaders.

Hundreds of pilgrims attended the beautiful service which had a focus on prayer, especially prayers for the North East and for renewal of religious life.
