Reflection on Scripture
A series written by a different member of the Diocesan Team each month.
.
God the Father…chose us in Christ before the world was made
to be holy and faultless before him in love…  (Ephesians 1.4)

It is quite common these days in the context of evangelization
for people to ‘share their faith story’,
to talk about their life, about God’s goodness to them,
and about how they have grown in awareness of God’s love.

But where does my story begin?
At a moment of conversion perhaps?
Or when someone first spoke God’s Word to me and I heard it for what it is?
Or my baptism? Or my birth?

Saint Paul traces my story back much further than that,
much further than the history of my consciousness
or even the history of time itself.
He traces my story back to eternity,
to a moment when the Father gazed lovingly into the face of the Son
and saw …me!

And chose me to be holy,
that is, to take on the characteristics of His Son
as He gazed back lovingly into the Father’s eyes.
So the vocation to be holy is not just for priests and religious,
nor is it just for those introverted and pious souls who are so inclined.
It is the starting point and the very theme of my story.
And when I accept that call to holiness
and devote myself, without embarrassment or compromise, to achieving it
then my story can become one of joy and peace.

CASE has a good article on "Evangelisation for Introverts":

"...I don't have to use sales techniques. We don't have to convince people to come to Christ. God does that. Our role is to introduce one friend to another (Christ), and let them develop that relationship....read full article at www.case.org.uk

 Quote
"I repeat the summons to the NEW Evangelisation now; we must rekindle in ourselves the impetus of the beginnings and allow ourselves to be filled with the ardour of the apostolic preaching which followed Pentecost.

"We must revive in ourselves the burning conviction of Paul, who cried out: 'Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel' (1 Cor. 9:16)."

When you see God working in your life, find an opportunity to point it out to others.  You will be surprised at how receptive people are and how our own faith is strengthened by sharing it. And aren't we all enriched by the personal witness of others?

Bottom Lines
A little child in church for the first time watched as the ushers passed the offering plates. When they neared the pew where he sat, the youngster piped up so that everyone could hear: "Don't pay for me Daddy, I'm under five."
=========================================
A little girl became restless as the preacher's sermon dragged on and on.
Finally, she leaned over to her mother and whispered, "Mommy, if we give him the money now, will he let us go?"
