foundation and history

The Parish Priest invited Sisters to move into St Joseph's Parish North Shields in 1987.

Since Sister Patricia Bell was already headmistress of St Joseph's school and since there was no house available then to move into she resided at the Prebytery. Soon after this she was joined by Sister Bernadette Dooley who also lived a short while at the Prebytery. It so happened that the Priest's housekeeper was moving out of St Joseph's Parish and expressed a wish that these Sisters would purchase her house. They moved into number 17 Cartington Road in 1993.

Sister Patricia Bell continued working in the school and Sister Bernadette worked as a Parish Sister visiting the sick and elderly and supporting the Parish Priest.

Our Convent is used for some meetings and we have Mass said in the Convent monthly. We take part in helping and leading various groups in the Parish, for example Journey in Faith, Scripture and Ecumenical groups. This work continues today but in the meantime Sister Patricia has been elected Institute Leader and Sister Bridget Lyons is now working alongside Sister Bernadette in the Parish.
