Young Christian’s input Social Teaching within the Local Community

During the month of February 2017 Billingham’s Young Christian Workers group brought to life Catholic Social Teaching by launching a project in aid of the local foodbank.

The group spoke at the weekend Masses, explaining that in Matthew's Gospel we have Jesus explaining in the parable:

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink”.

They informed parishioners that they would be collecting items of tinned food and fruit, tea bags, coffee, toiletries and household cleaning products for the local foodbank. The group said that they didn’t believe anyone in their community should have to face going hungry, especially as the need for foodbanks continued to increase. At the end of the month they visited the Billingham foodbank and delivered 29st. of food which was gratefully received.
