St Joseph's Home, Newcastle

The Little Sisters of the Poor have had a presence in Newcastle since 1866.

The present house, St Joseph's Home in Westmorland Road, has 58 residents with 13 sisters and a staff of 78.

This modern, well equipped Nursing and Residential Home has forty four rooms for residential care and fourteen rooms for nursing care, Each room has en-suite facilities, a nurse call system, Radio, TV point, Video Link, Sky TV, and Telephone Point.

Facilities include:

  • Spacious lounges, pleasant dining rooms, multipurpose hall, quiet sitting areas, snooker room
  • Doctor's surgery, physiotherapy unit, chiropody room
  • central kitchen with kitchenette on each floor
  • Handicraft room, library, hairdressing shop. pay phone, main laundry and laundrette
  • Private post box
  • Home's own mini-bus for outings and social events
  • The Home's own chapel is open to Residents of any denomination
  • There is an ongoing and varied programme of activities in the home which caters for a wide range of interests.

In addition a Day Centre is open during weekdays and many facilities of the home are open to members of the Day Centre.
