Discover the joy involved in giving your time and talents to the elderly
The sharing of the charism of religious institutes with laity opens today “a new chapter rich in hope, in the history of relations between consecrated persons and the laity” (John Paul II 1996).
The Little Sisters are always ready to welcome those who wish to share their charism by volunteering.
You could become a volunteer and help by
- Helping at Reception
- Spending time talking with the elderly and getting to know them as individuals
- Sharing your ideas on fundraising activities
- Driving the residents on outings
- Helping residents to go shopping
- Art and Craft activities
You could join the Association Jeanne Jugan
The Association Jeanne Jugan is open to Catholic men and women of at least 18 years of age who wish to participate in the apostolic mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
The members of the association share in the spirit and charism of Jeanne Jugan which is that of beatitudes: a spirit of gentleness and humility, lived in joyful and selfless service to the elderly, in whom they recognise the person of Jesus Christ.
Each associate is called to develop personally the spiritual attitudes which Jeanne Jugan lived:
- A lively faith in Divine Providence
- A personal love for Christ, recognised in the needy elderly
- A forgetfulness of self, joy and spirit of praise
"Jeanne Jugan's message can lead all those baptised and confirmed to a rediscovery and practice of that realistic charity which is stunningly effective in the life of a little sister or of a Christian lay person when the God of love and mercy reigns there completely."
Pope John Paul II
Beatification Homily, October 3 1982
