Little Sisters of the Poor in Hexham and Newcastle Diocese

Little sisters serving the elderly

Introduction

The Little Sisters of the Poor are an order of religious women, members of an International Congregation, founded by Jeanne Jugan in 1839. Their charism is a dedication to the service of the elderly.

They accompany those who they serve with love, compassion and skilled care. The lives of the Little Sisters while being active, reflect a strong contemplative dimension.

In our Diocese the Little Sisters of the Poor have two homes; one in Newcastle and one in Sunderland.
