Evangelisation Pilot Scheme in Sunderland
holy
spirit

The first stage of this scheme continues. Four areas have been highlighted:

  • Family evangelisation and outreach to those on the fringes of the Church.
  • Handing on the faith to the next generation.
  • Best use of evangelising moments e.g. baptism of babies, First Holy Communion,  RCIA, hospital encounters and funerals.
  • How to be enriched by the influx of migrant workers, who are bringing new life to some of the Sunderland parishes.

Reflection on Scripture

A series written by a different member of the Diocesan Team each month. This month the reflection is on Light.. read full reflection at
www.rcdhn.org.uk/evangel2/reflections/ref1.php

Here is an excerpt....

"The moon is only bright and beautiful when it faces the sun.
Without the sun it is dark and lifeless dust.
In the same way, if we turn our lives to the Lord,
what is dark and lifeless in us can be sanctified
so that it radiates God’s goodness.
This is evangelization and it is wonderful.
‘If your whole body is filled with light, it will be light entirely,
as when the lamp shines on you with its rays.’ (Lk 11.36)"

Quote from Evangelii Nuntiandi:

"Techniques of evangelisation are good but even the most advanced ones cannot replace the gentle action of the Spirit. The most perfect action of the evangelist has no effect without the Holy Spirit."

Be heralds of the Gospel.

This day led by Clare Ward was a tremendous success. See

Evangelise month by month

Hint for March:
"This month let the winds of the Holy Spirit blow around you.
Ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware of the people around you and inspire you to invite someone to a church service with you this Easter".

Bottom Line
From an email: While visiting her sister's home recently, Jane walked past her young niece's room before bedtime and observed her kneeling beside her bed, with her head bowed and hands folded, repeating the alphabet.
"What are you doing?"she asked.

"I'm saying my prayers," the girl explained, a sweet smile across her face, "But I couldn't think of just what I wanted to say. So I'm just saying all the letters of the alphabet, and God can put them together however he thinks best."
