Apostleship of the Sea News - Jimmy Christison RIP

Jimmy Christison
Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) volunteers and supporters from throughout the north east region, together with Mr Eamonn Delaney, Chair of the AOS national board of Trustees, joined family members, friends and former colleagues, at the funeral Mass for Jimmy Christison at St John the Evangelist church in Billingham. Jimmy had been ill for some months, an illness which he bore with great dignity and composure.
Fr John Butters celebrated the funeral Mass and while the large congregation present mourned Jimmy’s passing, this was also a celebration of his life.
Jimmy joined the AOS in 2001 as a Volunteer Ship Visitor, working at North Tees, and in his home town of Hartlepool. This was a role in which he quickly became established, and to which he gave his time and skills most generously, often ‘going the extra mile’ for the benefit of seafarers who all saw him as a great friend. Jimmy never sought accolades or recognition in respect of what he did, but did so out of genuine concern for his fellow man, and the sense of fulfilment this provided.
Jimmy will be greatly missed, as evidenced by the many messages of condolence received from AOS colleagues around Great Britain. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anne and his family. As one of our ordained colleagues commented, “Jimmy was a man with Christ in his name, and Christ in his nature”.
May he rest in Peace
