Presentation of the Harry Hipkin Shield to South Shields Circle
South Shields Circle has been presented with the Harry Hipkin Shield as a result of visits made by Brothers of that Circle in the year 2008-9.
Harry Hipkin KSG joined the Sunderland Circle of the Catenian Association in July 1945 and became Circle President in 1948 and again in 1949. He was President of Province 5 in 1954/55. He is the first signature on the Roll of the newly formed South Shields and the Circle's first Prsident in 1961/62 with a further term 1962/63. He became Grand President of Association in 1970/71. Unfortunately he died before completing his term of office.
In his memory a Shield bearing his name was presented by Sunderland Circle to Provincial Council of Province 5 to be awarded each year to the Circle in Province that has the best record of visits to other circles during the Previous 12 months.
