Diocesan Lourdes' Pilgrims thanked for their generosity

Collections

Fr Peter writes:

"During the Pilgrimage to Lourdes 2008, collections were taken at every Mass that was celebrated, both in the Sanctuary and at the City of the Poor. and I am very grateful to all who contributed to those collections.  For most of the time however this amount goes unrecognised and fails to be acknowledged.

"However, there is one official collection we are asked to take which is recognised – this was the collection on Saturday 2nd August, at our Opening Mass, which was the collection specifically for the debts incurred when Lourdes rebuilt and updated the Accommodation for the Sick in the Sanctuary.

"I received in the post this morning (1st October 2008) a letter from Mr Francis Dehaine, the Director General of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, thanking the pilgrims of Hexham and Newcastle for their generosity to that collection.  We collected €2,156.36 which, based on today’s exchange rate, is equivalent to £1,708.82 British pounds sterling.

I am very grateful to everyone for their generosity."
