Ecumenical Retreat Haltwhistle

Haltwhistle Churches Together parishioners attend joint retreat

Veronica Yarwood from St. Wilfrids Haltwhistle writes about the recent retreat at Minsteracres:

"Having initiated a number of events over these past five years, a small group of Haltwhistle Churches Together parishioners attended their first Ecumenical Retreat recently at the beautiful Minsteracres Retreat Centre. It was a time to relax and explore together; pray and eat together as well as to look seriously at our hopes for the future.

Over the 24 hour period participants engaged in Night Prayers by candlelight in the chapel and morning worship with the option of attending the Roman Catholic Mass in the monastery chapel.

Rev. Canon Raymond Best, Church of England Minister from Haltwhistle, led the interactive discussion following an inspiring and witty talk by resident Fr. Mark who urged participants to “Keep spreading the rumour that God is alive”.

It is hoped to promote another such retreat, the brain-child of R.C. parishioner Pat Peace, and that more parishioners will be inspired to participate.

The Churches Together in Haltwhistle are currently preparing to celebrate five years signing of the covenant service at the end of June. Our beloved Bishop Kevin (sadly departed) was scheduled to preach. The Very Rev. Paul Richardson, Assistant Bishop of Newcastle has agreed to preach on the occasion."
