foundation and history

We, the Daughters of Divine Love, an international congregation of religious women, impelled by the Gospel of Christ and the spirit of our founder are called to a courageous loving response to Divine Love Incarnate in contemplation, harmonious community living and apostolic action made visible in selfless liberating service to the entire creation.

We (the Daughters of Divine Love) are called to show divine love to the whole world.  For this, the congregation was born on the 16th of July 1969 at Ukpor Nnewi south local government area in Anambra State of Nigeria.  It was founded by a Nigerian bishop – late Godfrey Mary Paul Okoye, Cssp in the midst of the agonising suffering of a most ravaging war.

Rooted and grounded in love our motto is:  Caritas Christi Urget NOS.  Love of Christ therefore is our motive force and distinguishing mark.

The congregation is dedicated to the infinite love of God, Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Holy Spirit under the special protection of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Divine Love.

Our habit comprise of white and blue materials – the colours of our Lady.  We are fondly called the “Blue Sisters”.

Work of the Order in this diocese

The Apostolate of the Daughters of Divine Love in the Diocese consists primarily in the witness of our consecrated life to Divine Love hence our entire religious life is permeated by an apostolic spirit inspired by Christ’s love.

In addition, we are involved in health care, pastoral and catechetical work.  We are also ready to bear witness in other fields where the Diocese needs us.
