EASTER SUNDAY 2008

On Easter Sunday we celebrate the Resurrection; the triumph of Jesus over death as he rises from the grave.

On Good Friday Jesus has died; three days later, at Easter, he rises again in glorious triumph, and makes it possible for us to have a new life where we are liberated from evil, sin and death.

On Easter Sunday at St Mary's Cathedral, Bishop Hugh Lindsay celebrated Easter Sunday Mass, including Baptism of nine babies and children, with the Cathedral priests and a large Cathedral Congregation.

In his Homily, Bishop Hugh Lindsay said: "Christ the Lord is risen today, but He does not rise alone. He brings us with Him, rescued from sin and evil; we will see it in our baptism of children. He wants each of us to complete our journey with Him, so that we will come to share His glory with His Father."

He continued: " We, in our turn, are being called to witness to the risen Christ and to lead others to Him.

"This morning’s youngsters are baptised in the faith of their parents and of this believing parish. God delivers them from sin and evil then gives them the Holy Spirit to guide them and make them strong in looking for those things which are above. Their baptism reminds us that we too are being called ‘to look for the things that are in heaven, where Christ is’. "
