Bishop Séamus Cunningham

Ordination to the Priesthood 2017

Fr. Peter Stoddart was ordained to the priesthood on Saturday 22 July 2017 in St. Mary's Cathedral by Bishop Séamus Cunningham.

Fr. Peter was asked for a few words about himself:

I am aged 29 and my parents are called Pam and Tom. I also have 3 sisters. I'm from St. Joseph's, Ushaw Moor and went to that primary school where my Dad is the caretaker followed by St. Leonard's, Durham. I left there in 2006 moving onto the University of Sheffield. Just finished my Licence Degree (STL) in theology at the Gregorian in Rome. I am a Newcastle United fan.

Fr. Shaun O'Neill, Diocesan Director of Priestly Vocations:

Fr. Peter was on placement with me over two summer holiday periods about 3 and 4 years ago. During his Summer Placements he proved to be a most amiable, joyful and personable student, full of enthusiasm, prayer and love for the People of God, who in turn truly took to him as a student and especially as a future priest. I have been Fr. Peter's Vocations Director over the last two years and was able to attend his Diaconate Ordination at Palazzolo near Rome last year. I have every confidence that Fr. Peter will grow into the Priesthood and be a wonderful man of prayer and pastoral care for his parishioners.

Fr. Peter Celebrated his first Mass at St. Joseph's, Sunderland on Sunday. The Mass was attended by many family, friends and parishioners and concelebrated by other clergy. A reception was held after in the parish hall.
